Scottish rugby player Siobhan Cattigan passed away at age 26

Scottish international rugby player Siobhan Cattigan has died at the age of 26, the Stirling County rugby club confirmed Tuesday.


"Our love, thoughts and sincere condolences go out to the Shibby family at this devastating time. We hope that everyone respects their privacy as they grapple with their tragic loss," said a statement from Stirling County on its website following Cattigan's death. November 26.

After making their international debut against Wales in the 2018 Six Nations, the back row won 19 games with Scotland.

Cattigan was part of the team's tour of South Africa a year later, once again representing his country in the Six Nations for the 2020 tournament.

In April, he started all three of Scotland's 2021 Six Nations games against England, Italy and Wales.

His most recent international appearance came during qualifying for the Rugby World Cup 2021, when he was a substitute in the victory over Spain.

In addition to rugby, Cattigan studied Criminology and Sociology at the University of Stirling before later obtaining a Master's degree in Sport Psychology.

"Shibby has been a big part of the County for many years and she will be greatly missed by all at the club," added the statement from the Stirling County rugby club.

"She was fundamental to the development of women's rugby within the club and an inspiration for the girls in the youth section."
