Selma Blair is suffering from multiple sclerosis. At a health summit she has now talked about her risky treatment and difficult conversations with her son.

One year ago, Selma Blair made public that she had multiple sclerosis. In New York at the "Time 100 Health Summit," the US health magazine "Time," the actress has now talked about her illness, how to treat it, and how to deal with it.

The first treatment methods would not have struck long time with her, said the 47-year-old. She had suffered from severe pain and had lost much weight.

Last October, the actress wrote her MS diagnosis in a long message. For years, she had shown symptoms that had never been taken seriously. "I'm disabled, sometimes I crash, I drop things, my memory is cloudy, and my left side is asking for directions from a broken navigation system," Blair wrote. At the same time, she confidently said, "We can handle it." Although she still did not know exactly what was all about her, but she wanted to "give her best".

In the search for treatment options, her chemotherapy and subsequent stem cell transplantation have been suggested, Blair said, according to People. With that her immune system had to be rebuilt. But she was suspicious, the actress remembered.

Selma Blair's fight against MS: "I had no other options"

She had wondered why she should take this "horrible drug," chemotherapy. "I did not have cancer," Blair said. "But I had no other options."

She had received a low-dose chemotherapy before stem cell transplantation. As a result, she immediately felt a sense of relaxation, Blair said. This has convinced her to continue with the therapy.

She was informed about the high risks. She had more chemo than some cancer patients and therefore talked about her death with her son. He wished that she would be cremated in the event of her demise.

In the meantime, Blair is recovering from her therapy, which, according to the actress, ran smoothly. The failure of her hair did not seem to worry. "That was a small thing," said the Hollywood star. "My dream was just to lie next to my son at night and be there as long as I can."

Blair was known through films such as "Ice Cold Angels" (1999) and "Fog - Fog of horror" (2005) and also had roles in various series.
