(ANSA) - ROME, 03 DEC - "Interreligious and cultural dialogue and the battle against all forms of discrimination based on religion or belief should remain part of our commitment to pursue a positive agenda in the Mediterranean and beyond": Marina Sereni said, Deputy Foreign Minister spoke today at the meeting on the partnership between religion and government for a new Mediterranean unity policy in the context of the Rome MedDialogues 2021 Conference, in its seventh edition and promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ISPI, with ANSA as media partner and in progress until tomorrow 4th December.

"Religious actors should play an active role in conflict prevention and mediation, together with the international organization, governments and civil society, as key partners in finding solutions to ongoing tensions," he added. Sereni underlined that he had transmitted these messages in two events in recent months: in Bologna, during the G20 interreligious forum, and in Dubai, during the global interreligious summit hosted by the Italian Pavilion at Expo in the Emirate city.

The deputy minister recalled the Italian co-sponsorship of the resolution of the UN General Assembly for the establishment of the International Day dedicated to the commemoration of the victims of violence based on religion in 2019 and, the same year, the fund for the support of Christian minorities in the areas of crisis at the initiative of the Italian Parliament.

"Through the fund, we are supporting projects in Iraq, Lebanon, Syria and Palestine and a selection of new initiatives are underway", concluded Sereni.
