The authorities in the greater Mexico City area found thousands of bone fragments during excavations. At least 17 women are said to be buried under the house of the alleged serial killer. Maybe more.

Mexican investigators have found more than 3,700 pieces of bone during excavations in the house of a suspected female serial killer in the greater Mexico City area.

They could come from 17 people, mostly women, local media reported, citing the attorney general's office.

Accordingly, various objects such as cell phones, jewelry, handbags and key rings were found in the house in the city of Atizapán, which could have belonged to the people.

Contact was made with six relatives of missing persons.

The number of victims could still rise, also because after the excavations in the kitchen and part of the garden have now started work in other living rooms and the basement.

About a month ago, investigators were investigating the murder of a 34-year-old on the house of the now suspect man - and had found evidence of further crimes.

Initial findings indicate that the alleged serial killer has been killing women in his home since 1991 and then dismembered.

In Mexico, which has been plagued by violence related to the so-called drug war for many years, there are an average of almost 100 murders a day - for comparison: in Germany in 2019 a total of 245. Last year, the government of the American country counted 966 femicides - that is, murders of women because of their gender.
