Lloyd shipyard in Bremerhaven: insolvency proceedings opened

After the MV Werften on the Baltic Sea, the traditional Lloyd shipyard in Bremerhaven also filed for bankruptcy on Monday.
The Bremerhaven District Court confirmed this on request.
The Bremerhaven shipbuilding company is about 300 jobs.
Bremerhaven's IG Metall boss Doreen Arnold described the news as "shocking", according to the regional magazine "buten un binnen".
The rescue efforts of the last few days have been in vain.
The Hamburg lawyer Per Hendrik Heerma was appointed as the preliminary insolvency administrator.
He had also taken on this function at Elsflether Werft, which failed in 2019 with the renovation of the naval training ship "Gorch Fock".
Like the MV shipyards in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the Lloyd shipyard, founded in 1857, belongs to the Asian Genting Group.
Its cruise line has got into trouble because of the pandemic.
The MV-Werften did not succeed in securing the financing of the 75 percent finished and around 1.5 billion euro expensive new build of the cruise ship "Global Dream".
Negotiations between Genting and the shipyard with the federal and state governments failed.
It is unclear how things will go on with the last 1900 or so MV employees.
The Bremerhaven steel and shipbuilding group Rönner has expressed an interest in the Lloyd shipyard.
Sales talks, however, did not bring any result.
There should also be foreign buyers interested in Lloyd.
