New drama in the Channel, after the terrible shipwreck of migrants at the end of 2021. Thirty migrants were saved this Friday morning by the SNSM off Berck (Pas-de-Calais), in freezing temperatures, after the sinking of their boat according to La Voix du Nord.

One of the castaways, a man, died.

The victim, in her twenties, is a priori of Sudanese nationality, said the prosecution, which opened an investigation against X for manslaughter.

The balance sheet which could still increase.

Research is still in progress by means of the helicopter of the French Navy.

Two or three people are still missing.

The Berck firefighters, the maritime gendarmerie, the SNSM, the sub-prefect and the police are present on site.

Rescue operations throughout the day Thursday

During the night of Wednesday to Thursday, the regional operational center for surveillance and rescue (Cross) Gris-Nez had already identified several boats in difficulty in the Strait of Pas-de-Calais.

The Cross has taken many steps to help people in difficulty.

The French customs coastguard patrol boat Nordet rescued 34 shipwrecked people, whom it picked up on board before dropping them off at the port of Dunkirk (North).

The French Navy's Flamant patrol boat saved 26 shipwrecked people.

All the castaways, once back at the quay, were taken care of by the border police (PAF) and the departmental fire and rescue service (SDIS).
