Shoaib: The new consumer protection law focused on preventing the tampering with the citizen's sustenance

The Deputy Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection, Eng. Jamal Al-Din Shuaib, confirmed that the issuance of the decree that includes the new consumer protection law came in view of the current conditions that the country is going through due to the unjust blockade and penalties, and its impact on the living life of citizens and the rise in prices, materials, goods and services beyond their natural value.

Regarding the difference between the old and the new laws, Shuaib explained during a phone call with Al-Suriya TV that the old law contained light penalties and fewer financial fines. As for the new law, the penalty is imprisonment for every serious violation in addition to financial fines for every light violation. The focus was on preventing tampering with subsidized materials and the citizen’s strength. And fuel, fraud and fraud, since the safety of the citizen's food and the appropriate price is one of the most important things.

According to the new law, according to Shuaib, committees will be formed to determine prices in every governorate, a central pricing committee in the ministry, and an objection committee, indicating that there will be a pricing process for each material that will be circulated to all directorates of internal trade and consumer protection and their follow-up in addition to monitoring them in the markets.

Shuaib indicated that the spread of fraud, flour smuggling and subsidized materials trade required the issuance of a legislative decree that includes new penalties for all manipulators and violators, which would be a compass for observers and a protection for citizens and merchants.

Shuaib explained that the new law will be circulated to the trade directorates and observers, and its articles will be explained to those involved in its application who will be present in the market for this purpose, indicating the necessity of circulating invoices as the invoice is the identity of the basic goods, as no product may be without an invoice indicating the wholesale price and the consumer price.
