Shooting in Duisburg: More than 100 people fight on the street - several injured

Two groups attacked each other at Hamborner Altmarkt in Duisburg on Wednesday evening: shots were fired and there were injuries, the police arrested 15 people.
Duisburg – Numerous shots were fired at Hamborner Altmarkt in Duisburg (North Rhine-Westphalia) on Wednesday evening.
At around 8.40 p.m., the groups had gathered there for reasons that have not yet been clarified and then attacked one another, whereupon witnesses called the authorities, a police spokesman said on Thursday morning.

According to the police, the two groups are close to the clan and rocker milieu.
They had batons and firearms with them.
When officers arrived, many of those involved fled.
Two injured people were taken to hospital by ambulance, two others fled and later sought medical treatment themselves.
The police temporarily arrested 15 people.
A homicide commission took over the investigation.
The reason for the escalation and the motive are so far unclear.
However, there were members of the clan milieu and the rocker milieu in both groups, said a police spokesman.
One cannot distinguish between victims and perpetrators.

Immediately after the escalation, the police spoke of 80 to 100 participants, meanwhile there are already "a three-digit number of people" who had gathered at the Hamborner Markt in Duisburg to fight.

Since the area is large and there are many clues, the police were busy recording the crime scene until late at night.
The bullets from the numerous shots had to be secured on the premises.
It is a large area and there are many tracks, the police spokesman said.
The arrested persons are to be questioned in the course of Thursday.

So far it is still unclear whether shots were fired by both groups.
The investigators are therefore asking for information from witnesses about the crime and the people involved.
"Photographs or video recordings that were made during or after the crime are of particular interest to the investigators," said the public prosecutor's office and police in Duisburg to the dpa.
The police announced in the morning that the crime scene recording is still ongoing.
The Duisburg fire brigade supported the work on site.
