After a week of contacts in an attempt to reach agreements that will allow the establishment and work of committees in the Knesset, coalition chairman Idit Silman sent a letter to opposition center Yariv Levin yesterday (Friday), announcing that the coalition intends to continue the committee process without the opposition's consent. Of five special committees - all of the coalition.

Last week, negotiations were held between the opposition

led by

Levin and the liaison minister between the Knesset and the government, Zeev Elkin, in an attempt to resolve the crisis that has paralyzed the work of the Knesset since the government was formed.

Some progress was made in the contacts, and it was agreed that the opposition would be chaired by another committee, and would be chaired by a total of four standing committees: the State Audit Committee, the Aliyah, Absorption and Diaspora Committee, and the Committee for the Advancement of Women.

In addition, the opposition was proposed to chair two new special committees, and to chair four subcommittees in the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.

The main dispute that still remains between the parties concerns the relationship between the coalition and the opposition in the Finance Committee as well as the Economics Committee.

The opposition wants equality in the number of members of the Economics Committee, and to reduce the coalition's advantage in the composition of the Finance Committee from two to one.

The coalition refuses the demands, fearing it will lead to serious difficulties in the legislative process on budgetary and economic issues.

In a letter sent by Silman to Levin, she clarified that "we will not be able to meet these two demands," adding: "In order to ensure the proper work of the 24th Knesset of Israel, and begin the legislative work in the best way, Positive".

Levin attacked Silman, saying her letter was "just insolence. Earlier they made an extremely discriminatory offer, and now they are moderating the discrimination a bit and presenting it as a waiver."

He added: "It is impossible to get a situation in which the Likud receives minimal representation in the central seats while completely distorting the election results and the composition of the Knesset, only because the coalition is comfortable producing an artificial majority for itself, especially towards the budget."
