Former world number one Simona Halep has reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon, London, on grass.
Halep, the 16th candidate currently in the tournament, qualified after defeating fourth candidate, Spanish Paula Padusa, 6-1, 6-2 in one hour.
The 2019 Wimbledon title holder in the next round, American 20th candidate Amanda Anisimova, who in turn defeated the French surprise champion, who eliminated Serena Williams in the first round, Harmony Tan, where Anisimova settled the result in her favour, 6-2 6-3.
The 30-year-old Romanian has recently signed former Serena Williams coach Patrick Muratoglu, and has produced a strong performance in the tournament, in which she has not lost a set so far.
