Can't get past the Norwegians around Dominator Jarl Magnus Riiber? Are you kidding me? Are you serious when you say that. Johannes Lamparter from Austria caused a little sensation at the Ski World Cup in Oberstdorf.

The German combined athletes suffered a bitter defeat at the World Cup in Oberstdorf after a jump disaster.

In the surprising gold coup of the teenager Johannes Lamparter, defending champion Eric Frenzel landed as the best German in fourth place, as on the normal hill, but the hoped-for medals were more than a minute away.

For the first time since 1999, there was no German on the podium in the large hill competition.

In a class of its own was surprisingly Lamparter, who, after a dream flight at 138 meters, also kept the competition in check on the cross-country track and crossed the finish line 37.1 seconds ahead of top favorite Jarl Magnus Riiber (Norway).

Bronze went to the Japanese Akito Watabe (+45.8).

The 19-year-old Lamparter is the youngest world champion since the Norwegian Trond Einar Elden in 1989. The last world championship champion from Austria was Bernhard Gruber, who resigned just a few days ago in 2015.

The German team of national coach Hermann Weinbuch had already gambled away all medal chances on the hill in the morning.

The DSV team made up ground on the trail, but behind Frenzel there was no more than fifth place for Fabian Rießle and 15th place for Vinzenz Geiger.

As was the case six days earlier on the normal hill, it was not enough for a medal in the second individual, which was also the last thing that happened to the German team in 1999.
