The water is gone.

But what to do with the rubbish left behind by the flash floods of July 26th?

VIVO offers injured parties the option of disposing of two cubic volumes of bulky waste free of charge.

While the clean-up work continues, the emergency dam in Stürzlham will not be removed for the time being, as new storms are threatening.

Valley / Warngau / Weyarn

- It all happened very quickly.

Within a few minutes, the hailstorm on Monday evening (July 26th) damaged roofs, chopped up front gardens and defoliated trees, especially in the Weyarn districts of Gotzing, Stürzlham and Seeham.

The heavy rain that followed flooded over 70 cellars, especially in Stürzlham (Weyarn municipality) and Oberdarching (Valley municipality) even the furniture on the ground floor of the houses floated.

In order to at least relieve those affected financially when disposing of the flood waste, they can deliver two free cubic meters to VIVO, the district's waste management company, in the Birkerfeld industrial park in Warngau.

"We only need a short confirmation from the communities", says VIVO board member Thomas Frey.

Two extra cubic meters of flood waste are free

The mayors Leonhard Wöhr (Weyarn), Klaus Thurnhuber (Warngau) and Bernhard Schäfer (Valley) announced that they would issue these certificates unbureaucratically in the town halls. “We know where the problems were and who it hit,” says Thurnhuber. Valley's town hall chief wants to orient himself on a list of the fire brigade. In Weyarn, VIVO organized extended opening times for green waste disposal at the recycling center, where what was left of the hail could be disposed of.

In Stürzlham, thanks to resident Albert Zinsbacher, it was also possible to organize an excavator that night in order to raise an earth wall up to two meters high south of his carpenter's shop, next to the road to Neukirchen.

The wall caught the torrents from the meadows and dammed up a lake.

At around 11 p.m. the further inflow into the lower village was stopped.

The mayor does not want to level the earth wall for the time being.

“The floors are soaked through.

Who knows what will happen in the next few days ", says Wöhr," everything is still with the rifle at hand. "

Retention basin Oberdarching will be increased in 2022

In order to better protect Oberdarching in future, the dam of the retention basin is to be raised.

“We want to tackle this in early or mid-2022,” says Schäfer.

Streets and paths in the three communities have now been cleared.

“The main paths on Taubenberg are accessible,” says Thurnhuber, “and we are also in the process of repairing the smaller paths.” The steep ravine from Oberdarching down into the Mangfall valley towards Bruckmühle is still impassable.

In Valley, Warngau and Weyarn, building yard employees clean clogged road gullies so that the rain that has been announced for the weekend does not cause further damage.

"I'm happy that people help each other so well," says Wöhr, who would like to have "a few dry days in a row" for lasting relaxation.
