Social and patriotic implications in a poetry evening in the Suwayda cultures

Social, sentimental and patriotic poems whose contents and messages varied in a poetic evening revived this evening by Dr. Ihsan Qandil and Rodaina Nasr on the stage of the Palace of Culture in the city of As-Suwayda.

The poet Qandil began the evening with a poem “Troubleshooters” in which he sent advice, commandments and wisdom to his daughter, who is on the verge of university studies, in which an enhancement of self-confidence, hope, and responsibility for nation-building. The spirit longs for communication and originality, while “crowded with absence” describes the homes and exploits of the ancestors to conclude with the poem “The Impossible” in which the role of poetry and literature is highlighted.

The poet Nasr recited a group of poems full of sentiments, which began with the poem “Ascent” followed by a poem full of human reflections and sadness of loss, entitled “Under the clemency of death.” Man’s connection to his land, and “When Longing Takes Me” carried literary contents calling for re-creation through literature, to conclude with a poem of loyalty and remembrance entitled “To my father’s soul.”

A number of attendees pointed out to the SANA reporter the beauty of the poems, letters and meaning, and the contents, messages and images they carried that touched their feelings and enriched their tastes, considering that people need poetry at all times in peace, war, joy and great tragedies to express themselves and their social, national and emotional concerns.
