(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 29 - The Omicron variant risks causing a surge in coronavirus cases in South Africa which could triple daily infections.

"I expect that we will exceed more than 10,000 cases per day by the end of the week," Salim Abdool Karim, a well-known South African epidemiologist, said at an online news conference from the Ministry of Health.
