Spotify Annual Charts: Bad Bunny and Taylor Swift were the most streamed

Or is your most listened to artist, your most popular singer still about the same as it was in 2020?

At least that's how it is in the total of the millions of customers of the music streaming service.

Bad Bunny is the most streamed artist worldwide on market leader Spotify for the second year in a row.

With 9.1 billion streams, the Latin, trap and reggaeton singer has been accessed even more frequently in the current year than in 2020 (8.3 billion).

Behind them are Taylor Swift, BTS, Drake and Justin Bieber.

With over 5.1 billion streams, Olivia Rodrigo's »Sour« landed at number one on the album charts.

Their pop ballad "Drivers License" is also the most successful song internationally with over 1.1 billion streams.

German rap for Germany

In Germany, the German rappers have again taken over the charts: Bonez MC, Luciano and last year's top rider Capital Bra are right at the front in this country.

Only in ninth place is Justin Bieber, a non-German-speaking artist.

You won't find any rappers or singers in the top ten.

Luciano also delivered the most popular album of the year in Germany with "Aqua".

The most successful song in 2021 comes from Kasimir 1441, Badmómzjay, Wildbwoys and is called »Ohne Dich«.

Do these repetitions suggest that most people would rather forget the year 2021?

Are you the soundtrack for a year of stagnation?

Or shouldn't you just read too much into a digital playlist?

But the fact is: Even with the podcasts nothing has changed compared to 2020: The comedians Felix Lobrecht and Tommi Schmitt landed again in first place with their series “Mixed Hack”.

Followed, again, by Jan Böhmermann and Olli Schulz with »Fest & Flauschig«.

Third place, take a look, will not take over the daily format »Tagesschau in 100 seconds« again.

The true crime hype that has arisen is evident in the »Verbrechen« podcast in third place.
