Starnberg - At the end of this year's city cycling campaign, there was a special award for the district of Starnberg: At the Bavaria-wide closing event in Nuremberg last Friday, the deputy district administrator Georg Scheitz was able to present the certificate as Bavaria's "most active cycling district per inhabitant ' accept.

He is very pleased that the district of Starnberg has been at the forefront here for years: "First and foremost, of course, thanks go to our district municipalities, which have been taking part in city cycling since 2008," says Scheitz.

The municipality of Weßling was also honored as "Best AGFK Newcomer" and the Otto-von-Taube-Gymnasium Gauting, which took an excellent 3rd place in Bavaria in the parallel school cycling competition.

Cycling is trendy

This is also shown by the record participation in the City Cycling campaign and the School Cycling competition in Bavaria: 503 Bavarian municipalities took part this year, 76 more than in the previous year.

The almost 144,000 participants cycled more than 28.5 million kilometers between May and September.

The municipality of Weßling, which has also been a member of the Working Group for Cycle-Friendly Municipalities in Bavaria (AGFK Bayern) since this year, was honored as the best “AGFK Newcomer”.

School cycling in Bavaria

At the same time, the "School Cycling in Bavaria" took place again.

For the first time, the district office of Starnberg undertook a cycle tour with pupils from the Starnberg primary school and thus gave the official starting signal.

In addition, the ambition and motivation of the young citizens should be driven by an award for the winning school.

The significantly increased participation in the parallel "School cycling in Bavaria" competition this year is therefore very pleasing: Among a total of 731 schools - including 16 schools from the Starnberg district - the Otto-von-Taube-Gymnasium in Gauting achieved 685 active cyclists cyclists and almost 90,000 kilometers cycled the district victory and an excellent 3rd place in Bavaria.

As the prize, the district office presented a voucher for a bicycle campaign day at the school, which is to take place next year.

An event that is intended to give schoolchildren an even better understanding of the bicycle as a sustainable and safe means of transport in everyday life in a fun and educational way.
