The Ski World Cup stops in Kitzbühel.

The DSV stars fight with their form.

Kitzbühel - The next double pack in the downhill in the Ski World Cup.

On Friday, at 11.30 a.m. and Sunday, there will be two shot rides on the notorious Streif in Kitzbühel.

On the last winter sports weekend there were two more downhill runs in Wengen - the German ski aces want to do better this time at the legendary Hahnenkamm race two weeks before the Olympics than they did a week ago.

The German results on the Streif from previous years give the DSV team courage.

Andreas Sander and Romed Baumann each raced into the top 5 in the 2021 downhills, Josef Ferstl won the Super-G in 2019.

That should "give a boost of motivation", believes men's national coach Christian Schwaiger.

The piste was "excellent - challenging and really cool," said Baumann after training.

He still has to get used to the new entrance to the traverse, which has been slightly modified by a terrain correction.

He regretted that the character of the route had changed as a result - just like Ferstl.

In general, however, Baumann is "ready" for the Streif.

"I look forward to it."

In the first practice, the Norwegian Alexander Aamodt Kilde was the fastest, in the second the South Tyrolean Christof Innerhofer.

The races on the Streif are the most famous ski descents in the world - the winner of the day collects 100,000 euros in prize money.

Even if the atmosphere will have nothing to do with the one you have been used to in Kitzbühel for years.

Some 50,000 fans were there every day - including plenty of celebrities.

Unlike last year's ghost races, 1000 spectators are allowed this time - despite the comparatively high seven-day incidence.

You have to "set an example," said the President of the Kitzbühel Ski Club, Michael Huber, about the partial approval.

The event is something like a “national cultural asset.” But again there will be no big party or VIP temple in the finish area.

Caution is the top priority.

On the route.

And next to it.

Ferstl had a bad fall in training on Wednesday, but wants to start despite bloody injuries.
