The main teachers' unions are calling for a one-day strike on Thursday to demand a significant salary increase. A tea

Less than a month after the start of the school year, the main teachers' unions are calling for a strike this Thursday, October 29 as part of a day of interprofessional mobilization for the preservation of purchasing power and against pension reform.

The Snuipp-FSU, the main union of the first degree, calls on school staff to join the mobilization with the CGT and Solidaires "to demand a general increase in wages and 300 euros net for all immediately".

The Snes-FSU, the majority union in the second degree, is also mobilizing on wages and calling for a "pay increase of at least 10% to preserve the living conditions of all public service agents and, then, a multi-year plan to make up for the losses incurred”.

If it is still difficult to measure what extent this movement will take, some are already anticipating the disruptions to come.

“The theme of salaries is very sensitive among teachers, which is why the movement should be well followed.

Some teachers who are not usually mobilized seem to want to go on strike, ”says this principal of a Parisian high school.

In the second degree, the teachers are not obliged to declare themselves strikers in anticipation, which is not the case in the first degree, where the teachers of the schools must manifest themselves to their hierarchy forty-eight hours at the advance.

No catering in some schools

In this Parisian school, this director has thus identified five strikers out of the thirteen teachers.

“It's pretty much the same trend in the other schools in the neighborhood, says the manager.

School teachers are concerned about the pay slogan, and some would have gone on strike, but economically they cannot afford it.

The fact that it is not a renewable strike also plays in favor of a fairly large mobilization.

Also in the capital, schools, particularly in the Goutte d'Or district (18th arrondissement), have already planned to close their doors this Thursday, while in this primary school in central France none of the 17 teachers have planned to go on strike.

Will the disparities between the territories be significant?

We will see more clearly this Wednesday, with the first figures from nursery and primary schools, and especially Thursday morning, when the strikers of the second degree will manifest themselves with their management.

However, some establishments have already informed parents that catering services will not be provided, since the watchword concerns all staff.
