Chairmen of student unions: "MKs Bish Atid pressured us to elect the deputy chairman of the national association, a former party activist" • The party denied: "None of the candidates are running"

Is there a future trying to take over the student union?

This is at least what some of the chairmen of student associations claim, who will elect the chairman and vice-president of the national student union the next day.

Some of the chairmen testify that Yesh Atid's Knesset members recommended that they choose Shaked Befshi, a key activist of Yesh Atid and who until two weeks ago served as deputy chair of the youth staff, who is running for deputy chair of the national student union.

This is contrary to the opinion of the Election Commission, which prohibits any involvement of political factors in the process.

Thus, among other things, MK Yurai Lahav-Herzno held meetings with several chairmen of student unions, and in their opinion, urged them to enlist in the move. The Student Union is a body that over the years has led protests against tuition fees, the cost of living and more.

In the upcoming elections to the student union, two officials will be elected: the chairman of the association and his deputy. Those who elect them are about 40 chairmen of student associations at universities and colleges.

The battle for the roles is between two couples.

On one side are Elhanan Fleheimer (chairman of the Ono Academic Campus) who ran for the position of association chairman Ido Bruchstein (Ruppin College) who wants to be his deputy.

On the other hand, Jordan Ben-Zvi (chairman of the association at Tel Aviv University) and Shaked Benfashi (chairman of the association at Shaarei Science and Law College) are competing.

According to the testimonies of several chairmen of student unions, as stated, MK Lahav-Herzno recently held meetings and talks aimed at promoting her to the position.

The chairman of a student association at an academic institution said: “It starts as a meeting to assist the academic institution, you are told that a Member of Knesset wants to meet with you.

Then very quickly the conversation moves on to the union elections, and you realize that this is the only reason why they chose to meet with you.

According to him, MK Lahav-Herzno "brought up Shaked's name in my mind.

It was clear that he was running her and helping her a lot.

The discourse is in the style of 'who is with us and who is against us'.

If you want budget support - you need to vote for the right camp.

The party there is working for Shaked and Jordan to be elected. "

MK Simon Davidson Mish Atid also recently met with the chairman of the Student Union.

In a conversation with Israel Today, Davidson claimed that he did not meet anyone, but after we clarified that there was evidence of this, he repeated it and confirmed the very existence of the meeting.

He said, “I met about three months ago with the chairman of a student association of a particular college on issues related to my occupation.

During the meeting I asked him who he was going to support and that was the end of the meeting.

"After that, I had meetings with him in which the issue did not come up."

These are not the only testimonies, some chairmen of associations have confirmed that they met MKs Mish Atid and that Shaked's name came to mind.

One of them said that "even some mayors who are identified with Yesh Atid have held meetings with the chairmen of associations. Everyone is trying to push their hand there."

Others who have met Yesh Atid MKs in the past two months have refused to name them and claimed there was no political intervention.

MK Lahav-Herzno noted that he is the chairman of the Knesset Higher Education Lobby and said in response that "as part of the preparations for the opening of the academic year, I met for working meetings with chairmen of associations and presidents of educational institutions. I do not run any of the candidates and wish everyone success."

"I never asked Knesset members to work for me, and certainly not to talk to my friends and presidents. I paved my way in the association myself, with a lot of determination to work for the students in Israel, and moreover - before I applied I resigned from my party position."

Mish Atid stated: "Bish Atid MKs meet regularly with student leaders on various issues, with the aim of improving the quality of life of young people in Israel. The nature of the professional meetings is not related to the election process for the National Student Union."
