A welcome breath of fresh air in a context of stifling uncertainty. At the opening of the Angoulême French Film Festival on August 28, Prime Minister Jean Castex announced aid of 165 million euros to strengthen the financial resources of the National Center for Cinema and Animated Image (CNC ), whose planned budget for 2020 was around 675 million euros.

In detail, 60 million euros are intended to compensate for the deficit in tax revenue of the center, weighed down both by the long closure of cinemas between March and June and by the drop in revenue from television channels, which donate a tax to the CNC. The other 105 million euros will be used to launch support measures for the various players in the sector: producers, distributors, cinema operators, with an emphasis on the latter. "We will have to fight collectively, all together, State, elected officials, professionals, so that the cinemas find their frequentation.
