Australian swimmer Emma McKeon broke the Olympic record in the women's 100-meter freestyle heats at the Tokyo Olympics today, with a time of 52.13 seconds.
According to Reuters, McKeon broke the previous record of 52.62 seconds set by Sarah Sjostrom, which is also the best personal record for Australian swimming.
Hong Kong's Siobhan Hohei, who won the 200m freestyle silver earlier in the day, finished second in the heats with a time of 52.70 seconds, beating Britain's Anna Hopkin and Australia's Kate Campbell.
The British swimmer Luke Greenbank was the fastest in the men's 200 meters backstroke heats in a time of one minute 54.63 seconds to beat Russian Yevgeny Rylov, one of the gold contenders.
As for Tatiana Schönemaker, who won the silver in the 100 meters backstroke, she was the fastest in the 200 meters backstroke heats in a time of two minutes 19.16 seconds, and American Lily King came in second place.
