Syria Dylan.. A project of the International Junior Chamber in Damascus documenting the tangible and intangible Syrian heritage

Damascus, SANA- 35 young men and women from the JCI members toured today a number of Damascus neighborhoods.

35 young men and women from the JCI members toured a number of old neighborhoods of Damascus, during which they documented a group of professions and handicrafts for which Damascus was famous, through photographs taken by their cameras and information they recorded through meeting with a number of the owners of these crafts and the neighborhood residents of senior citizens Age.

Today’s tour comes within the “Syria Dylan” project, which is a Syriac designation that means “our Syria” in Arabic, which was launched by the Young International Chamber in Damascus last March, according to its director, Dr. Specific to the project as well, in coordination with the Ministries of Culture and Tourism.

According to the pilgrims, the participants in the tour were divided into several teams distributed in a number of old lanes and markets. They met a number of workshops for the manufacture of silver, gold, copper, brocade and mosaic in the markets of Medhat Pasha, Al-Buzuriyah, the Straight Street, Al-Azm Palace and Sulaymaniyah Avenue. One of the teams also visited the Bimaristan Al-Nouri (Museum of Medicine and Science).

Alaa Soukia, the deputy head of the Chamber in Damascus, indicated that the team visited the Museum of Medicine and Science, and it was documented architecturally and what it presented in the field of science, in addition to highlighting the spatial surroundings of the museum and meeting a number of its residents. The young Samer Ishaq considered that the project was an opportunity to communicate directly with the craftsmen and take information from them.

Dr. Khanum Marani, Vice-President of the Young International Chamber in Damascus, explained that the community programs implemented by the Chamber in Damascus during the current year also include the “Noun” project, which aims to introduce Syrian laws related to women’s rights through awareness sessions in coordination with the Bar Association and the Syrian Trust for Development, and the “You are the Entrepreneur” project for adolescents. From 14 to 16 years old, with the aim of training them on entrepreneurship, in addition to another project concerned with mental health through yoga sessions and psychological first aid.

JCI Syria was established in 2004 under the supervision of the International Chamber of Commerce and currently includes eight local chambers in Damascus, Tartous, Aleppo, Sweida, Homs, Wadi, Lattakia and Apamea, where it implements various projects within four domains (individuals, society, business and international scope).
