Makhlouf confirmed in a statement to reporters after the meeting that it was agreed to exchange experiences in the field of environmental protection, reduce pollution and desertification, and activate the agreement previously signed with the Iraqi side in this field to serve the agricultural sector, especially that the two countries are subjected to the same practices by the Turkish side, which cuts off water. Makhlouf pointed to the need for integration in the work between Syria and Iraq, finding joint solutions to treat sand dunes and strengthening work in areas that lead to environmental protection.
In a similar statement, Minister Al-Khafaji said that Iraq is keen to learn about the projects implemented in Syria in the environmental field and the role of the administrative units in that to benefit from this experience in the future, expressing hope for working mechanisms to address water scarcity in order to preserve agricultural land and limit its deterioration.
The meeting was attended by the Chargé d'Affairs at the Iraqi Embassy in Damascus, Yassin Sharif Al-Hujaimi, and the Director General of ACSAD, Dr. Nasr Al-Din Al-Obeid.
