Cultural and museum cooperation between Syria and the Sultanate of Oman and the restoration of archaeological holdings was the focus of the meeting, which was held at the Ministry of Culture building today.
Dr. Lubana Mushouh, Minister of Culture, discussed during the meeting she held with an Omani delegation headed by Jamal bin Hassan al-Moussawi, Secretary-General of the National Museum in Amman, continuing the process of preserving and safeguarding Syrian artifacts damaged during the war years by signing an agreement attached to a previous agreement in this regard.
The meeting dealt with the opening of an exhibition of Omani antiquities next Monday at the National Museum in Damascus, in addition to prospects for cooperation and strengthening it between the two countries, and prospects for specialized professional training and qualification, and benefiting from the Omani experience in museum work in all its fields.
In a statement to reporters, Moushouh described the cultural cooperation with the Omani side as constructive, which during the past years provided support for Syrian cultural and museum institutions, whether in the archaeological or restoration aspect.
Mushawah indicated that the Al-Assad Library loaned the manuscript of the Arab navigator Ibn Majid to the National Museum in Oman, which he restored and displayed after the loan period was extended so that the largest number of Omanis could see this rare and important historical manuscript, explaining that the prospects for cooperation are open to what is greater and more comprehensive to include in the future the establishment of Joint cultural, artistic, knowledge and intellectual activities between the two countries.
The meeting also discussed, according to the Secretary of the Omani National Museum, the prospects for specialized vocational training and qualification and benefiting from the Omani experience in museum work, whether in conservation, preservation, museum education, visitor services, marketing, media and others.
Al-Moussawi pointed out that Damascus is the third stop that hosted the Amman Day exhibition and activities, whose activities extending to six months include an exhibition entitled “Illuminations on Amman” at the Damascus National Museum, which presents illuminations on the most important civilizations that followed his country from the Bronze Age to the 19th century.
Al-Moussawi considered that this event is a moral contribution to supporting Syria and opening and strengthening cooperation prospects under the current circumstances, stressing that the doors are open for the exchange of experiences, ideas and capabilities in the cultural and museum fields, given that Syria is the cradle of human civilizations and has its own civilized project that can be integrated with its Omani counterpart.
It is noteworthy that the Omani delegation included the Head of the Organizations and Conferences Department in the Office of the Secretary-General of the Museum Badr bin Amer Al Kharousi, Head of the Conservation and Conservation Department Khawla bint Saif Al Wahaibi, Conservation and Conservation Specialist Shaima bint Khamis Al Isaiah, Abdullah bin Muhammad Al Rajabi, and Photography Technician Saeed bin Hamad Al Ghamari.
