The last 1.5 years have shown that school children in particular had to suffer from the pandemic conditions caused by Corona.

The result: not taught subject matter, a lack of knowledge, an ever-increasing educational gap.

The “goodgrade” teacher portal, which has developed a project to support students in secondary school and secondary school, aims to remedy this.

Developed in 2014 from a school project at the Feodor-Lynen-Gymnasium in Planegg, "goodgrade" now offers tutoring with around 140 teachers in Munich (south) west.

In the Fürstenfeldbruck district they are already working with eleven teachers, the focus so far has been Germering, explains Rüdiger Piossek, former high school teacher and “goodgrade” coordinator for the district.

One does not want to rest on the courses already offered in the middle and elementary school in Emmering and a coaching for final exams at the vocational school in Fürstenfeldbruck, but want to expand the offer.

"The knowledge gaps caused by Corona require intensive learning in the new school year and can be supplemented by the learning support that has been developed," explains Piossek.

Due to the pandemic and the associated multiple changes at all school and private levels, learning has changed significantly.

This forces new action and a more detailed orientation.

So a transition from the "normal"

Tutoring for learning support is important.

"The tests in the last school year turned out extremely bad, class results with a grade point average of 5.3 or 5.4 were accepted calmly," explains Piossek.

"The students no longer know where they are in terms of performance."

This is of course due to the corona situation, but it is still not clear to the students that it is "now getting serious again", that they now have to switch again to make up their knowledge gaps.

So far, the acceptance of teaching material is still very low, "you have to teach the students again why learning is so important," continues Piossek.

"More than tutoring"

Under the motto "More than tuition", "goodgrade" would like to first clarify the current status of its tuition students in the context of individual coaching or through small learning groups with a maximum of three people in order to develop an individual, holistic support plan. According to Piossek, on-site tutoring with personal contact and communication is particularly important, "the students have been alone long enough because of Corona". In addition, there is regular “reporting” to the parents and a constant update of the current status and a success control.

But the students should not only be supported on a professional level, "also the social must be included," explains Piossek, because social behavior has also changed due to the corona pandemic and the constant change from homeschooling to alternating and face-to-face teaching.

A learning accompaniment is important, in which the student is put at the center and his psychological state is also taken care of.

As a result of the pandemic, tutoring work for teachers has shifted more towards a "supervisory nature", explains Piossek.

The difference to other tutoring offers is that "goodgrade" does not fall back on non-subject staff, but offers tutoring by trained teachers with several years of professional experience and student teachers.

"Teachers in the district who feel called to join are welcome to contact us," Piossek advertises for the teacher portal.
