As with every heat peak, the daily life of the workers becomes more trying. Public transport is a torture, wearing a mask does not help and the excessive air conditioning in some offices is sometimes not much more pleasant. Last summer, during the heatwave, several members of the government called on companies to promote teleworking. A year later, the situation has changed, teleworking is well established, but is it really the solution against the heat?

"We are in open space and because of the sanitary protocol, we can not use either air conditioning or fan, which makes the temperature relatively heavy at the end of the day" , explains Benjamin Slagmulder, who works in IT in Chartres . He and his colleagues have the choice of whether or not to come to the office during heat waves. An initiative facilitated by the organization put in place during the confinement and welcomed by Benjamin Slagmulder, who assures him: "When it's hot, it's really more pleasant to be at home."

Damien Viot, head of a mechanical engineering office, is much less enthusiastic about teleworking in hot weather. “When it's really hot, I work in the dark, I eat cold and I can adapt my clothes more easily. It keeps me going, but it doesn't replace the air conditioning in the office, ”he emphasizes.

At the office, I'm cold

Air conditioning is not always optimal for everyone, however. “At the office, I'm cold,” says Elisa Samourcachian. Between the forty degrees of the RER and the twenty degrees of the editorial staff, the journalist indicates having had headaches the first days. By teleworking half the time, she made the purchase that many dream of in these hot weather: “Yesterday I broke and I ran to buy a fan ,” she says. I couldn't take it anymore, my room, where I work, became a furnace in the afternoon. ” Now well equipped, she is hesitant about her workplace for the next few days.

A choice that Stéphane Cohen would like to have. Teleworking since March, he dreams of returning to the office and the weather is not helping. "I go green as soon as I can," said this Axa employee. Before confinement, I already teleworked two days a week, it was convenient but now the loneliness and the heat are heavy. ”

For Philippe Planterose, president of the French Association for Teleworking and Tele-Activities: "It is better to be a little warm than to be poorly installed." An opinion that Dr Faiza Bossy reinforces. "Many remain seated in a chair all day without taking breaks, at the risk of forgetting to drink water and to move around a bit," she emphasizes, adding that air conditioning can also make you forget to drink. "The important thing is to stay in motion and to stay hydrated, it's essential to be in good health."
