Langenbach

- In the community of Langenbach there has recently been a new community garden: At Dorfstraße 27, the association “Essbaren Langenbach” has created a garden on a private property where “everyone can go in, help themselves and participate”, as Vice President Verena said Juranowitsch describes. But it will take a while before the first harvest: In the spring, the members around chairwoman Christine Dreikorn started growing tomatoes, herbs, strawberries, root vegetables, beans and much more. Now it's time to wait - and water and care for the garden.

The idea for this project is not new. Already in spring 2019, the 30-member association set to work to build a community garden in Niederhummel. But the project turned out to be difficult - not only because of the corona pandemic. The soil conditions were difficult and the area was too large, says Verena Juranowitsch. In addition, there was "a lot of wind and little shade", which made the cultivation of fruit and vegetables more difficult. And also logistically it was "not so ideal" for the predominantly Langenbach families, adds Laura Oberjatzas. That is why the garden in Hummel was given up and everything was dismantled.

The three women explain that the central location on Dorfstrasse is perfect. “You have more walk-in customers here,” says Juranowitsch happily. And that is deliberate: people who either come by spontaneously - for example on a walk - or stop on a short and uncomplicated way, for example to water the flower beds or do other small jobs - “gladly with the children too,” say the three women . Because the idea is based on the fact that everyone can come and take part. The women are convinced that the project will be successful. “The feedback is there,” says Juranowitsch. It remains to be seen whether the people will actually come.

The “Essbaren Langenbach” association will also take part in the holiday program this year.

In August, the community garden is to be sown, tinkered with and harvested.

By the way: The association is currently looking for the “super sunflower” via Facebook and the Internet.

Those in charge are happy to receive pictures and stories.
