For 1.25 million euros, the city of Bad Tölz brings the pigeon hole out of its shadowy existence. The city builder now explains by when everything should be ready.

Bad Tölz - The work on the construction site in the park in Taubenloch is on schedule. During a site visit, Mayor Ingo Mehner and City Architect Florian Ernst explain the current state of affairs and explain what will be created on the green space on the Isar.

“As it looks now, we will be ready by the end of November,” explains Ernst. The timing is on schedule, although the flood at the beginning of August delayed the work for a few days.

Seven "Isar steps" offer seating by the river in the Taubenloch

Work has been going on in the park since May. In a first step, clearing and tree securing work was started. Above all, care had been taken to ensure that the later construction work did not damage any of the trees' roots, according to the city builder. This also meant that the final position of the “Isar steps” could only be determined precisely during the construction work.

A total of seven of these Isar steps, most of which are now finished, will later offer seating directly on the bank. They are real manual work: the steps are made layer by layer from rammed concrete. Each layer is around 15 centimeters thick. The color varies in nuances. This results in an appearance that is similar to the layers of earth on the banks of the Isar, explains Ernst. The steps are also not dead straight - just like the bank itself. You paid attention to that, says the city architect. "In the end, that results in a very organic picture."

Playground in Taubenloch is getting bigger and nicer

The steps are anchored in the ground with earth dowels. This ensures wall stability, says Ernst, and also offers support in the event of flooding.

In the next step, from this week on, 63 boulders of different sizes will be placed on the bank area and on the waterline around the seating steps. The chunks have already been delivered. They should also serve as seating, but also protect the bank area from the occasionally raging Isar. The new route along the bank is made barrier-free with spray asphalt.

Many families are hit hard by the fact that the popular playground in Taubenloch is currently closed due to the construction site. But it should then become even more beautiful and, above all, bigger. The area will be expanded by a quarter towards the northwest, explains Ernst. Work has already started there too. The holes for the foundations of the new playground equipment have been dug and the final shape of the square can be seen. The playground is also getting a new hedge as a border. “The city council made a conscious decision in favor of a hedge solution with integrated hiding bays, as a simple fence does not look inviting,” explains Mayor Ingo Mehner.

There will only be two disabled parking spaces in the Taubenloch

The stairway to Fröhlichgasse will also be completely redesigned. Most of the steps are made and built in. They should make the ascent a little easier in the future.

The conversion of the entrance area at the former parking lot and the Nepomuk figure will conclude the construction project, which cost almost 1.25 million euros. “The area from the traffic lights to the figure of the saint and the former parking lots will be paved anew. To do this, we take stones like those built on the right and left edges of Marktstrasse, ”explains the city architect. And in this entrance area, the 35-tonne monolith that was recently found during construction work on Königsdorfer Straße (we reported) will find its final place. In the future there will still be two disabled parking spaces there, but otherwise no more parking spaces for cars. For this purpose, storage space for bicycles will be created.

Mayor Ingo Mehner is extremely satisfied with the conversion of the Taubenloch: "The newly designed park will bring life to the city and emphasize the Isar as a distinguishing feature of Bad Tölz," says the Tölz town hall chief. In addition, the right bank of the Isar in the city area will be freely accessible to citizens for the first time, says Mehner happily.
