After attacking several people on a regional train in North Rhine-Westphalia with a knife on Friday, the 31-year-old alleged perpetrator was admitted to a psychiatric clinic.
The public prosecutor's office in Aachen announced that three cases were being investigated on suspicion of dangerous bodily harm and attempted insidious murder.
It is highly probable that a psychotic experience on the part of the accused was the cause.
The public prosecutor emphasized that there were no indications of a terrorist background or religious radicalization of the suspect.
According to the public prosecutor's office, the man suddenly pulled out a kitchen knife on the train in Herzogenrath near Aachen and stabbed several fellow passengers.
In the end, five people and the attacker himself were injured.
A fellow passenger - supported by other people, including a federal police officer - overpowered and disarmed the 31-year-old.
