The end of the year is approaching, with significant consumer spending planned for Black Friday and Christmas shopping.
Bruno Le Maire, the Minister of the Economy, has just announced, this Wednesday morning on France Info, the raising of the tax exemption ceiling for gift vouchers distributed by works councils or directly by employers in the smallest companies in 250 euros.
He added that this measure remained "exceptional".
The objective is to provide a "one-off boost", according to him.
However, the minister does not want this increase to replace possible wage increases.
Doubling in 2020
In 2020, to support consumption, the government exceptionally decided to double it from 171 euros to 372 euros.
In 2021, this ceiling had returned to a “normal” rate of 171 euros.
Bruno Le Maire, who seeks to reinject the money saved during the crisis into the real economy with consumption, wanted to make a gesture for the end of the year, while the Covid pandemic has started to rise again.
Concretely, these gift vouchers only apply in certain cases defined by URSSAF such as weddings, retirements, end-of-year celebrations for employees and children up to 16 years old or even to the back to school occasion.
