The attack on the 4th of July parade on the outskirts of Chicago had been planned "for weeks".

The police said this at a press conference underlining that "at the moment there is no motive for the massacre".

After an eight-hour manhunt, police arrested the 22-year-old young man suspected of opening fire on a July 4th parade on the outskirts of Chicago, killing six and wounding 31. Robert Crimo, who authorities did not he still officially defined the perpetrator of the massacre, was stopped while he was driving his car in the Lake Forest area, north of the Illinois metropolis, and was immediately taken to the plant for questioning.

The killer mingled with the crowd wearing women's clothing.

At the moment we only know what appears on social media: rapper with the pseudonym Awake, several tattoos on his face and neck, a resident of the city where he probably committed his massacre.

The killer had two rifles.

One is the one with which he shot at the parade killing 6 people, another was found in the car in which he had escaped.

Police also explained that more than 70 shots were fired.

For the massacre, the killer used a high-capacity rifle similar to the Ar-15, the most used weapon in mass shooting in the US.

Both of the weapons he was in possession of had been purchased in the region.

In a photo of his Facebook profile, now obscured but relaunched by many Twitter users, the young man appears with a helmet and a small camera on his head and his face covered.

Also on his page appears an image of a demonstration of the Patriot Front, a white supremacist organization.

The parade in Highland Park had just begun, about ten minutes, when the killer opened fire on the thousands of people who were enjoying a day of joy and relaxation with the family.

He fired from the roof of a building and used a rifle, which was later found by officers.

"At first I thought they were fireworks, I didn't realize they were gunshots," said a witness.

"Then I started seeing bloody people screaming and running away. It was horrible",

said the woman still in shock.

"It was a chaotic scene. I tried to call my family and found that they had taken refuge inside a building near the path," said another witness who was driving to the parade when the shooting began and said. saw people flee from one side to the other.

"It was scary, I've never seen anything like it in my entire life. People terrified and covered in blood," said a third witness.

The images that circulated on the sites and social media showed overturned chairs, abandoned strollers, thermos and cooler bags thrown on the pavement next to the blood of people who were injured or killed.

Scenes of panic and terror of families who a moment earlier were celebrating with their loved ones.

Joe Biden and his wife Jill said they were "shocked" by yet another episode of "senseless violence".

During the celebrations at the White House for the independence day, the American president asked for a minute of silence for the victims and assured that he will continue to fight against weapons.
