"The application of a third dose has been shown to increase the immune response and the effectiveness of vaccines against covid-19 in adults, including protection against serious forms, but also against contagion and transmission," said the Ministry of Health. .

After how long should you access the booster dose?

It depends on your age.

If you are over 50, you should take the booster dose four months after taking your initial full schedule of the covid-19 vaccine, said Health Minister Fernando Ruiz.

If you're between the ages of 18 and 49, you should wait six months to take such a booster dose, Ruiz added.

"It will be progressively as the different stages of the National Vaccination Plan have been fulfilled," said the Minister of Health on November 22 when announcing the measure.

"The incorporation of all adults aged 18 and over to the assignment of boosters contributes to herd immunity, considering the appearance of more contagious variants, and some of them, with the potential to evade the immune response", says the Ministry of Health in their website.

What vaccine should I get?

Although the Vaccine Advisory Committee recommended using booster doses from "heterologous platforms" —that is, when the vaccine scheme uses the inactivated virus, or viral vector or mRNA — the decree that regulates the third dose also recommends third doses with a heterologous biologic with an mRNA or viral vector platform (AstraZeneca).

So, if your first doses were:

Pfizer or Moderna: It

is recommended that you get the third dose with Pfizer, Moderna, or AstraZeneca vaccine.

AstraZeneca: It

is recommended that you get the third dose with the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.

Or also AstraZeneca itself, as it has a viral vector platform.

Janssen: it

is recommended that you access vaccines from AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna or Janssen itself, which is viral vector.

Sinovac: It

is recommended that you access Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Sinovac own vaccines, which is inactivated virus.

What if I got vaccinated abroad?

The Ministry of Health reported that all people can access the booster dose of the covid-19 vaccine, even if they were vaccinated abroad, although to access it they must have their complete vaccination schedule.

They must also join the stages according to their classification by stages.

How is covid-19 going in Colombia?

As of November 29, Colombia has reported 5,067,348 cases of covid-19;

128,473 deaths from the virus and just over 13,000 active cases.
