Butterball is recalling ground turkey products from two of its brands with a sale date of October 17 and 18 for containing foreign material.

Butterball recalled more than 6,350 kilograms of ground turkey products on Wednesday after consumers informed food safety regulators that they had found bits of blue plastic embedded in the product.

The recalled items are the 2.5-pound (1.1 kilo) trays of "Farm-to-Family Butterball Natural Ground Turkey" with a sale date of October 18, and the three-pound (1.3 kilo) pans. ) from "Kroger ground turkey" with a sale date of October 17.

These items were produced on September 28, according to a press release from the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

FSIS, which said that turkey meat "may be contaminated with foreign materials," and urged consumers who purchased it to avoid consuming it.

"These products must be discarded or returned to the place of purchase," the agency said in a press release.

So far, the inspection service has received no confirmed reports of consumers being injured or ill from eating the turkey, the agency said.

"The health and safety of the people who enjoy our products is one of Butterball's top priorities, and we work hard to ensure that our product safety program meets or exceeds government standards," the company told CNN Business. in an email.
