The Central Bank of Syria has agreed to pay more than 40 million Syrian pounds to citizens for the value of the distorted banknotes presented by them, based on a decision of the bank’s management committee.
The bank stated in a statement that the number of citizens for whom payment was approved is 131 in its branches in Damascus, Hama, Sweida, Lattakia, Aleppo, Tartous, Deir ez-Zor, Daraa, Hasaka and Homs.
The reasons for the deformation of banknotes varied, according to the statement, to include “fire, wear, poor storage, moisture, washing, rodents, damage as a result of use and rupture.”
