Multi-specialty team handles patient conditions in the same operating room
Cheng Peizhi, head of the Department of Anesthesiology of Eastern District Hospital, pointed out that taking a patient with a traumatic fracture in a traffic accident as an example, the patient will first be sent to the A&E department for X-ray examination and computer scan imaging.
If the patient's condition is unstable, it needs to be sent to the operating room immediately, and an orthopaedic surgeon will perform a pelvic fracture fixation operation.
After the patient's condition is stable, they are admitted to the intensive care unit. If the patient's condition is unstable, they need to be sent to the emergency room for a computer scan. The patient will then be transported to the X-ray department for vascular hemostasis surgery, and then to the intensive care unit.
Elevators are required to transport patients to different floors, and it takes half an hour for trauma patients to be transported from the emergency room to the X-ray department for computer scans.
On the contrary, the hybrid operating room has one-stop treatment and diagnosis services. The patient is sent to the emergency room, and after the CT scan is performed, it can be sent to the hybrid operating room immediately. Different specialists will handle the patient's condition in the same operating room, saving Complicated shipping process.
Pre-operative preparation time reduced from 1 hour to 10 minutes
The complex operating room is equipped with a robotic arm angiography machine and the first intraoperative computerized scanning imaging system in a public hospital, which can perform real-time positioning and navigation, assess the patient's condition, and detect abnormalities in time for treatment.
Mak Renjie, consultant orthopedic and trauma surgeon (Orthopedics) of Eastern District Hospital, said that the robotic arm angiography machine can obtain the patient's image and drawing within 10 minutes, and the preoperative preparation time is expected to be reduced from one hour to 10 minutes, speeding up the operation process. .
In preparation for the opening of the hybrid operating room, relevant departments are actively training medical staff.
Lei Mulian, Operations Manager of the Department of Anesthesiology of Eastern District Hospital, said that five dedicated nurses have coordinated with colleagues in the X-ray Department and learned about the workflow of the new operating room.
Peng Jiayuan pointed out that it is hoped that the hybrid operating room can improve patient safety and the quality of clinical services. It is expected to provide 107 interventional procedures in the first year after its opening, that is, from the third quarter of this year to the third quarter of 2023.
Nearly half of these surgical procedures are vascular surgery, and the rest include first cranial nerve intervention, spinal surgery, and complex trauma surgery.
