Preliminary estimates of the European Statistics Office Eurostat today showed that the euro zone recorded a trade deficit of 16.4 billion euros, or 17.05 billion dollars, during the month of March.

According to Eurostat data, the region recorded a trade surplus of 22.5 billion euros (23.4 billion dollars) during the same period in 2021.

The region's exports to the rest of the world recorded a 14 percent rise in March on an annual basis, amounting to 250.1 billion euros, and the region's imports increased by 35.4 percent to 266.5 billion euros, amid a noticeable increase in energy imports.

According to Eurostat, intra-regional trade of the bloc's countries increased by 21.2 percent to 236.8 billion euros and 246.2 billion dollars.

The region recorded a trade deficit of 52.4 billion euros and 54.4 billion dollars during the first three months of this year, compared to a trade surplus of 56.7 billion euros and 58.9 billion dollars on an annual basis.

According to the data, the European Union recorded a trade deficit of 27.7 billion euros (28.8 billion dollars) in March, compared to a trade surplus of 18.7 billion euros and 19.4 billion dollars in March 2021.
