In the long term, Germany wants to replace fossil fuels.

Hydrogen could be an alternative.

As part of a test delivery, the first hydrogen from the United Arab Emirates has now apparently reached Germany: According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, a hydrogen test delivery has arrived at the port of Hamburg.

The cooperation was agreed during the visit of Economics Minister Robert Habeck to Abu Dhabi in March and "an important step in the desired development of a comprehensive hydrogen value chain between Germany and the UAE," according to the ministry.

According to a statement, Habeck commented on the agreement: "Today's cooperation makes a two-fold contribution: it strengthens the achievement of our climate goals and at the same time our energy security."

The hydrogen supplied by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company was shipped in the form of ammonia.

The multi-metal manufacturer Aurubis will use it for tests on the climate-neutral conversion of gas-intensive copper wire production.

In the medium term, so-called green hydrogen is also to be imported, the production of which uses green electricity, according to dpa.
