At about 6 o'clock in the evening today (5th), it is understood that the staff of the High Court received a suspicious letter. After opening it, they found a can containing white powder. The security guards called the police for help.

Officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Division of the police went to the second floor of the court to investigate and believed that the powder had no dangerous ingredients and seized it for further inspection.

No one was injured in the incident and no evacuation was required.

The case was listed as a request for police assistance and was handed over to the Central Police District Criminal Investigation Team for follow-up. No arrests have been made so far.

Sources at the scene indicated that the recipient was the Master's clerk, and the white powder was suspected to be protein powder.


Regarding the receipt of a suspected threatening package by a staff member of the High Court, the Secretary for Justice, Mrs Lam Ting-kwok SC, issued a statement expressing great concern about the incident. He said that Hong Kong, as a society ruled by law, will never tolerate any illegal acts of intimidation or violence and contempt of court.

If anyone commits such acts, the SAR government will definitely follow up seriously, bring the wrongdoers to justice, safeguard the dignity of the courts, ensure the proper execution of judicial work and social peace.


The judiciary said the incident had been handed over to the police, and the judiciary would not comment.
