The local councils in Rottach-Egern have made a difficult decision behind closed doors: The existing town hall on the B307 is to be demolished and replaced by a new building.
Mayor Christian Köck informed about this in the most recent meeting.
First of all, architect Andreas Erlacher - at the same time a member of the FWG parliamentary group in the local council - presented the feasibility study carried out.
In 2013 the city hall was dealt with for the first time and deficits were discovered in the building, which was once a guest house.
The historic building is not barrier-free.
There is no elevator.
The room layout is also not ideal, and a lack of fire protection is also a problem.
Decision passed unanimously
So what to do “First of all, we designed everything for a renovation,” explained the architect. But that would be violent. The building would have to be completely gutted and redesigned. In addition, the question arose what should happen to the area around the town hall - and what it would all cost in the end. In several closed meetings and lively discussions, a difficult but necessary decision was initiated: renovating the town hall makes no sense.
The decision was unanimous, added Mayor Christian Köck.
"We are in a building that has a history, but was never structurally optimal," he said.
“We want a town hall again that fits into the town.” As painful as the farewell is for some, no one needs to worry that a futuristic building will now be built in the center of the town.
The fact is: "It is the only sensible way, even if the decision was not an easy one for us," summed up the mayor.
“We want to tackle the issue during this legislative period.” So in the next five years.
New and modern town hall
"I was very skeptical at the beginning," said Green Councilor Thomas Tomaschek.
"I would like us to create a reference to the porch, because it has a history." The population will probably have to swallow first that the town hall is removed.
Michael Hagn (Blitz) explained that he also had a hard time dealing with the topic at the beginning.
“But I have come to the conclusion that a renovation would be at least as expensive as a new building,” he said.
“And I was convinced that a new building is unavoidable.” He has known the town hall - like many others in Rottach-Egern - since childhood, but the next generation will then have peace and quiet on the subject.
