The Jerusalem Municipality will be obliged to recruit dedicated workers who will respond to calls for vandalism in real time, in order to combat the vandalism of female figures on billboards, the Jerusalem District Court ruled today (Sunday).

This, against the background of vandalizing the face of a Holocaust survivor at an art exhibition.

The Reform Center for Religion and State filed an administrative petition after an exhibition of photographs of Holocaust survivors, displayed outside the city hall in Safra Square, vandalized a picture of Peggy Frances, a 95-year-old Holocaust survivor.

Signs showing women undergoing vandalism and advertisers suffer damages of hundreds of thousands of shekels.

In a hearing held today in the petition, the Reform Center for Religion and State demanded that the municipality take effective steps to combat the phenomenon.

The municipality's representative, Haim Sasson, announced at the hearing that the municipality will set up a special camera unit to enforce offenses in the public space.

The unit will deal with the destruction of property, among other things due to the heavy damage caused by the demonstrations against the light rail. "This city is something crazy.

At the hearing, the parties agreed that the municipality will hold a round table with police representatives in order to formulate an orderly plan to combat the phenomenon of vandalizing women's photos on Jerusalem signs, and will recruit dedicated workers within three months to respond to real-time vandalism calls.

"It is inconceivable that lawbreakers would run the public space," Judge Shirley Renner said at the hearing.

Attorneys Orly Erez-Lachovsky and Uri Narov, from the Reform Center for State Religion, filed the petition, adding that "the court today unequivocally clarified the seriousness of the phenomenon of corrupting female figures in the public sphere. We will continue to monitor to make sure the municipality addresses "Judge and act in order to turn the public space in Jerusalem into a space that gives women an equal and respectful place."
