Whoever thinks that the Hapoel Tel Aviv youth project is the result of the Corona crisis. Behind this project is a lot of thought, which was born long ago, and despite giving those youngsters the reins in big games like the Derby on this night is a risky gamble, the Reds are walking the walk with their eyes closed.

Before we continue, a brief introduction: Doron Leidner (18), Osher Davida (19), Tom Bro Mordechai (19), Eili Tamm (19), Amit Meir (19), Ofek Ovadia (19) and of course Shai Eisen (19), who turned To the car player from the beginning of the season, and Raz Shlomo (20), who did this already last season. What everyone has in common, except for Leidner, is that they are the players of the club's youth team that won the Cup last year.

In February, a conversation was held between the professional team led by Nir Klinger and Moshe Sinai to brothers Itzik and Sharon Nissanov. "If there is a good time to run the young people, it is now," Nisanovs said. The reason was simple: The team earned enough points, so that even if it was not a qualifier for the top playoffs, it was not in danger of losing.

The owners, who track every player and player in the youth, have given the green light to the move. "For five years these children have been marked as potential," claims Hapoel, "all the time there was a desire to integrate them, just looking for the timing. They are the new golden generation of Hapoel Tel Aviv."

At this point, it was decided to bounce the youths to practice regularly with the older group For more than a month, they trained under Klinger, whose team had secured a place among the top six in the meantime, and then the coronation came.

The Corona era made the Reds realize that if they managed to integrate some of the youngsters, they would also benefit financially. what does it mean? Hapoel believes that at least half of the youngsters can be rotation players for anything next season, which means you can save contracts for faculty players earning NIS 40-20,000 a month, for example Idan Cohen and Nir Lex, who have already left the team.

"As soon as three or four of these young people get a seat in the lineup or become first replacements, it will allow them to invest in spot purchases," Hapoel explains, "because there will be money available to bring three or four guns and not compromise."

"They are the future of the worker"

except that working with young people is a complex project. After all, they're not used to the clutter, the pace, the pressure, so Klinger and his assistant Dan Roman take a player or two for personal training almost every week, sit down with them for one-on-one conversations, and hold video meetings focusing on what they need to improve and work on.

The veteran actors - Ural Degani, Maor Buzaglo and Omri Altman - also joined the mission on their own initiative and took the young men under their care.

"It's a lot of investment and a lot of work, but we go about this project with all the might," said a senior club official. "We have no choice. These players are the future of the player. Obviously we will pay a price for some games and we will also be slapped, but it will be worth it."

In the evenings, "Klinger's babies," as the club calls them, will face their biggest test to date - the derby against the champion. If there they see their character and succeed, they will certainly be able to talk about a new future in Khodorov.

Head coach Nir Klinger said ahead of the game: "We did everything this week to confirm the players, especially physically, after the extraordinary load we went through in the past two weeks. The loss in Haifa and the mistakes we made were something that did not characterize us from the start of the playoffs and so we want to fix the impression quickly."

More from Klinger: "We know Maccabi Tel Aviv is a strong and disciplined team and this has been evident throughout the season, but this is Derby, it's the most important game for our fans and the whole club. We will have to rise and present an uncompromising game to win. We practiced defensive and offensive combinations and number of vehicles during the week. To find the best composition against Maccabi's abilities.

Goalkeeper Eric Janco, who will be at the gate tomorrow (injured Yoav Jarafi) said: "We are aware of the importance of the game, we have more assignments this season and we will do everything to return to good ability, which has not gone well in the last two games. For both clubs, it has a lot of prestige and respect, a real sporting battle that every player wants to be a part of. We will come humble and determined and I believe we will achieve our goal. "
