The Super Moon of the year dominates the May sky, expected for the night of May 26; it will share the scene with Mercury, which in the middle of the month will reach the best evening visibility of the year, as the Italian Amateur Astronomers Union (Uai) reports.
All therefore with the nose up for the day in which the full Moon will be at the minimum distance from the Earth (perigee), slightly closer than that of April 26-27, thus appearing a little larger. The time when it will be closest to our planet will be 03.52 on the night between 25 and 26 May.
The other protagonist of the month is Mercury, which on May 15 will reach the best evening visibility of 2021: it will set almost two hours after the Sun and consequently it can be observed well at dusk. According to the Uai, do not miss the close encounter with Venus, which will 'overtake' Mercury between 28 and 29 May, while Mars will continue to remain clearly visible in the evening. Instead, Jupiter and Saturn will remain observable in the last hours of the night, before the sunrise.
Finally the conjunctions: we start on May 4 with the suggestive concentration of the Moon, Jupiter and Saturn in the South-East before dawn, and then continue on May 12, when the very thin crescent moon will set accompanied by the Pleiades and Venus. In the early hours of the night of May 16th, the sky, Mars and the Moon will be clearly visible under Castor and Pollux, while on May 31st the Moon will dance with Saturn and Jupiter in the last hours of the night.
