As in 2020, the Japanese manufacturer's city car remains the most produced car on French soil in 2021, ahead of Peugeot's 3008 and Renault's Kangoo.

She is not French, but that does not prevent her from being first in the class in front of her comrades playing at home.

If it competes with the Peugeot 3008, it is Toyota's Yaris city car which ranks at the top of the most produced cars in France in 2021, for the second consecutive year.

Despite a 17% drop in production volumes compared to 2020, more than 156,000 Toyota Yaris models were still produced at the Onnaing site (Hauts-de-France) according to the firm Inovev.

The runner-up in the ranking, the Peugeot 3008 produced 147,547 units in the legendary factory in Sochaux (Doubs), ahead of the Renault Kangoo produced at 90,241 units in Maubeuge (North).

400 million euros invested and 700 additional permanent positions

The Japanese manufacturer is particularly proud of the success of its fourth generation Yaris.

This has in fact generated an “

investment of 400 million euros

” and the hiring of 700 new additional positions on permanent contracts at its Onnaing-Valenciennes site, which now totals nearly 5,000 jobs (3,616 CDI, 945 CDD, 331 temporary workers) and more than 1.5 billion euros of investment.

With a production of more than 156,000 units in 2021, our 4th generation Yaris is meeting with real commercial success throughout Europe.

It is the best-selling model in the Toyota range on the European market […]

” boasts Jim Crosbie, president of Toyota Motor Manufacturing France.

An encouraging French production

After a particularly difficult year in 2020 due to the pandemic and therefore to factory closures, the French automotive industry returned to a weak but encouraging recovery in production in 2021 with an increase of 1.3% compared to 2020. These are in effect 1.307 million passenger cars and light commercial vehicles which were produced on French soil in 2021. As for sales, Peugeot may regret the relocation of the production of its 2008 model to Spain, which on the one hand was sold in 2021 to more than 180,000 units in Europe, but which above all caused the 3008 model produced in Sochaux to lose a lot of influence and sold nearly 150,000 copies, explains the Inovev firm. The same firm believes that the Peugeot 2008 would undoubtedly have been "

the most produced car in France if the Stellantis group […]

” had not relocated its production.
