"The Next Big Things - The next great internet revolutions
", is the event organized by
IIT
, the Institute of Informatics and Telematics of the
CNR
, together with ANSA to tell the state of the art and the future of two lines of research science that are preparing to change the world as we know it: artificial intelligence and the Quantum internet.
The appointment is for next
Saturday 8 October
, starting at 4 pm, at the Auditorium of the
CNR Research Area in Pisa.
The event will be part of the programming of the Internet Festival 2022, will be open free to the public and will be broadcast in live streaming on the home of the
ANSA.it website.
Conceptually divided into two parts, "The Next Big Things" is a journey towards the frontiers of information technology where the first stage is AI, or the new paradigm around which reliable and human-centered services and technology are built, amidst challenges technological and ethical implications, while the second is the frontier research of quantum computing and quantum internet.
Let's start with AI:
Yoshua Bengio (University of Montreal)
, Turing Award 2018 and considered the father of deep learning, will open the event, who will share his vision of the perspectives of artificial intelligence.
Following, a panel on the promises and realities of autonomous driving with the two Italian pioneers of the sector
Rita Cucchiara (University of Modena and Reggio Emilia)
and
Alberto Broggi (University of Parma)
;
a keynote by
Barbara Caputo (Polytechnic of Turin)
, who will tell us how robotics embodies artificial intelligence;
and then, again, a panel with
Michela Milano (University of Bologna)
and
Dino Pedreschi (University of Pisa)
which will describe some of the challenges faced in creating a human-centered and trustable AI, as well as in applying algorithm-based solutions to solve the problems of a complex system such as human society.
In the second part of the event we will talk about quantum computing and quantum internet: more than 50 years after the birth of the Internet, quantum computers are already a reality, they represent the future of information technology and pose a new challenge to research, namely the realization of a new Internet that can connect them together.
The narrative opens with the writer, physicist and actress
Gabriella Greison
, who will be on stage to introduce the audience to the extraordinary history of quantum physics.
After her,
Anna Grassellino (Director of the SQMS DOE National Quantum Information Science Research Center at Fermilab Chicago)
will explain why we are building quantum computers.
Alessandro Curioni (Vice President, Europe & Africa and Director, IBM Research) and Sergio Boixo (Chief Scientist Quantum Computer Theory Google)
will explain how the two tech giants have taken up and lead the quantum challenge.
Finally
Luciano Lenzini (University of Pisa)
, the "father" of the Internet in Italy, and
Claudio Cicconetti (IIT-CNR)
they will tell us how complex and exciting it is to do frontier research, 40 years ago as today.
Marco Conti, IIT-CNR Director and ANSA CEO Stefano De Alessandri will open the event, while Maria Chiara Carrozza, President of the National Research Council, will close the event by drawing the conclusions.
