The play of the bear within the celebration of Culture Days

Theatrical director Mamoun Al-Khatib chose the script of the play The Bear by writer Anton Chekhov to be his latest show at Al-Hamra Theater in Damascus during the celebrations of the Syrian Culture Days held by the Ministry of Culture.

The show, which was produced by the National Theater Directorate of Theaters and Music, came with a Syrian vision that approached life events in a satirical form, closer to black comedy, posing several human and social issues and focusing on the theme of love as a solution to most of these topics.

Concerning the selection of the text, the director Al-Khatib said in a statement to SANA, “I chose this text for several reasons, one of which is that it is an important reference for students of the Higher Institute of Dramatic Art due to the importance of Chekhov as an international writer, in addition to the use of monologues by most of those who apply to the institute from this text. The most important reason is that we need to focus on love as our savior in The gloom and dehumanization we are experiencing remained within this world.”

Al-Khatib explained that his participation in the celebration of the Syrian Culture Days has become an annual tradition and a date with the audience, during which he presents a theatrical performance commissioned by the Directorate of Theaters and Music.

And the starring roles in the show were performed by the artists Rana Jammoul, Zeina Al-Masry and Wissam Mahmoud.

The show card included the scenography Nizar Al-Bilal and Reem Al-Shamali, the music by Rami Al-Dhali, the dramaturgy Tarek Adwan, the makeup of Munawwar Al-Akkad, the lighting of Majd Maghames, the advertisement of Nizar Al-Bilal, the assistant director Jibril Al-Ajji, the assistant director Omar Fayyad, the photography by Nawras Bahlawan, the makeup implementation by Angie Salama, the artistic implementation of fashion Hayat Diop, Laila Maqsoud coiffure and the director The platform is Mazen Saloh, lighting implementation by Imad Hanoush, sound implementation by Tariq Majer, Ahmed Abdel Ghani clothing official, and Samer Loubani accessories official.
