The President of Damascus University discusses with a Russian delegation the development of scientific and academic cooperation between the two countries

Damascus University President Muhammad Yasar Abdeen discussed during his meeting today with a Russian academic delegation headed by Alexei Cherkisov, President of the Christian World Union, areas of scientific and academic cooperation between the two countries.

The two sides discussed ways to develop Russian curricula in Syrian universities and schools to suit the levels of students at all educational levels, to prepare for a conference to be held during the coming period in Syria dealing with the Russian language, to develop its curricula, to exchange scientific visits, and a draft agreement between Syrian and Russian scientific institutions that includes work on developing curricula, exchanging student and professor visits, and exchanging Publications and Research.

Dr. Abdeen stressed the need to benefit from the curricula followed at Moscow State University and to conduct an evaluation of the curricula at the secondary and preparatory levels or university specialized by developing university books to suit the levels of students of all years, pointing to the importance of exchanging programs between Syrian and Russian universities and conducting joint research in the interest of developing a curriculum Teaching the Russian language.

For his part, Cherkezov indicated that he sensed a great interest from Syrian government agencies in teaching Russian curricula, pointing out that Damascus University is the mother university in Syria and serves as a center for training and preparing teachers in the Russian language and for graduating specialized students.

Cherkezov explained that work is currently underway to develop curricula for teaching the Russian language in Syria, with preparations for successive visits aimed at developing it and enabling its teaching as it is an important window for exchanging cultures, ideas and experiences between the two countries.

The meeting was attended from the Syrian side by the Vice Presidents of Damascus University for Scientific Affairs, Scientific Research and Graduate Studies, Director of International Relations and International Cooperation, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Head of the Russian Language Department at the Faculty of Arts, and from the Russian side, Head of the International Relations Department at Moscow Educational University, a representative of the Russian Ministry of Education and a representative of the Science Fund Russian.
