Damascus-SANA

Censorship as a great responsibility, whose performance requires transparency and high professionalism, based on clear foundations and criteria so as not to be misunderstood as a handcuffing of science, culture and creativity, emphasizing that its abolition opens the door to professional chaos and loss of credibility of work, according to what a number of writers indicated. And those in charge of cultural control over publishing.

The head of the Arab Writers Union, Dr. Muhammad Al-Hourani, said in a statement to SANA: I am in favor of censoring manuscripts, but with conditions and limitations, and if some of them see the limitations of censorship on some sacred manuscripts as a necessity, then from my point of view, the sanctity of language is the most important, and there may be some gaps in the reader Or otherwise, but after the author's name was omitted for this type of manuscript, we are in front of a more healthy state.

Al-Hourani added: There is no objection to combining the owner of the manuscript with the censor when there are compelling reasons to do so, indicating that the rejection of the manuscript is sometimes illogical, and is due to personal reasons, which necessitates preventing the censor from reading it in the future while referring the manuscript to another reader.

Haitham Al-Hafiz, head of the Syrian Publishers Association, said in a similar statement: We, as publishers, believe that responsible, national and high-end supervision is a positive factor in the development of the publishing industry, provided that it is responsible oversight aimed at fostering culture, developing science and knowledge, advancing cultural growth forward, and dealing with all Cultural stripes impartially.

Al-Hafiz continued: When the censorship has clear plans and standards that it follows professionally, it is constructive that preserves the authenticity of society, prevents the penetration of destructive hands that aim to tear society apart, abolishes the social role entrusted with construction, and raises the level of national culture, especially among young people, pointing out that When censorship does not deal impartially and professionally, it turns into a nightmare for culture, writing and creativity, proposing to call it follow-up that protects the moral rules of society, and not censorship.

Censorship on children’s publications in particular is necessary and important, according to the writer Ramiz Hajj Hussein, with the aim of controlling the sound language, consolidating noble values, reducing malicious ideas and negative meanings, and in turn this supervises the production of a balanced cultural situation worthy of our taste, indicating that censorship should enjoy With a high culture, and expanding the umbrella of its research, to remedy all the negatives of cultures alien to our children, their stories, magazines, and textbooks, and not to be restricted to creativity, nor to frame imagination within ready-made classic templates.

Critic Radwan Falaha considered the necessity of activating selectivity within the institutions concerned in this regard, to enrich the moral concept and experiences of the creative individual, and to stand on the level of cultural and cognitive censors and their flexibility, to accommodate the creative critical writer's mentality, and to keep pace with the cultural and literary movement to develop the creative field, bearing enlightening responsibility, and investigative briefing In all areas.

Hama Culture Director, Sami Taha, believes that censorship is a necessity to preserve the integrity of the book, in light of the influence of social media that has kept people from reading.

He pointed out that some members of the reading committees are sometimes moody, so it is necessary to choose them accurately and efficiently, pointing to the danger of the existence of vulgar books, and they have nothing to do with any literary form or gender, because of the personal relationships between members of the committees or some of them, and between the author of the book.

The researcher in Arabic language affairs, Raghida Shafiq Mahmoud, indicated that censorship should be strict, especially in the field of educational curricula, but this does not apply to other institutions, as leniency is sometimes necessary with regard to the freedom of the writer at the level of official cultural institutions, provided that it does not affect national values. The technical level should be high, because its decline causes a decline in the social and cultural situation, leading to a decline in platforms.

Every reader in the censorship committees should realize that the negative publications negatively affect his national culture, this is what the poet Mahmoud Hamed pointed out, who considered that what we see from some publications in the markets are described as rogue, pointing to the necessity of strictness, and not making the censorship process easy.
