Joey Chestnut has long been an American hero, and tonight (Monday through Tuesday) he recorded another chapter in his unique fairy tale, when he won Nathan's traditional sausage eating contest for the seventh time in a row and 15 of the last 16 years.
Chestnut arrived on crutches for the disgusting but prestigious event that takes place every year on American Independence Day in Coney Island, New York, and was absent from several important preparatory competitions due to the pain he suffered in his leg, but in the moment of truth he again picked up the crown with no less than 63 sausages in 10 Minutes, far ahead of the runner-up who managed to swallow only 43 sausages.

By the way, the person who broke through waved a sign that read "Expose Smithfield Death Star," referring to the Smithfield food company that caused controversy in Virginia following harsh allegations of cruelty to animals.
It is alleged that the company keeps the pigs in small cages and passes them over and over again, as part of a cruel and violent procedure.
The protester wore a mask of Darth Vader from Star Wars, calling the food company "Death Star."
