The question that moves this republic is not how it goes with the SPD. The Republic raises the question of how the Grand Coalition will continue. But this question is completely open, even after the members' vote of the Social Democrats for Saskia Esken and Norbert Walter-Borjans.

That became clear last night in the show "Anne Will". Esken and Walter-Borjans writhed for an hour, even on keen questioning, so as not to have to answer the most important question.

For months, the SPD has been looking for new chairpersons. At that time, there was a question mark behind the Grand Coalition, it floated in the air, made politics subject to change. The fact that the members opted for two candidates who are undecided says a lot about the fragmentation of the SPD on this issue. But it is also an imposition. This country has to get out of the waiting room, needs a decision.

As far as I know, there was never a 30-year-old politician in the history of the Federal Republic who was as powerful as Kevin Kühnert is at the moment. He stands behind the victory of Walter Borjans and Esken, because he has mobilized his Juso troops for the two. His word has weight if the SPD still decides whether they leave the grand coalition or not. By doing so, Kühnert indirectly influences who governs this country, whether Merkel, Kramp-Karrenbauer or another.

Anyone who saw Kühnert in the ZDF program "Berlin direkt" last night could also assume that sooner or later he would see himself in this office. That was pretty confident and confident, especially for a 30-year-old.

Kühnert's power is also an expression of a time in which the youth no longer wants to accept how things are. The protest movement "Fridays for Future" has put the federal government on a climate package on the agenda, now determine Kühnert and his Jusos significantly on the fate of the SPD and the Grand Coalition. After the sixty-eighters this is the most influential generation of young people in the Federal Republic. And their influence can still grow.

Today the German Donation Council informs about the donation trends. I can add this to a comment on a donation initiation trend. On almost every day of the week, I am at Berlin Central Station in the evening and in the morning, and on many of these days people are lurking there, collecting money for useful purposes, for environmental protection or for Amnesty International .

They are young people who are trained like actors, they come smiling and flirting, I look so nice, if I do not ... In some weeks I experience that ten times, and if I'm unlucky enough Amnesty's upscale beggars stand also at the weekend at Marheinekeplatz, where I like to shop. I used to stop and say that I had deposited a standing order with Amnesty at my bank (which is true), now I'm just going on shaking my head. And have a bad conscience.

Soon I'll ask the donation collectors how I could not look nice on their criteria.

... is the documentary filmmaker Stephan Lamby. For many years he manages to tell politics exciting for television. Tonight on ARD at 8.15 pm the film "The Emergency Government - Unloved Coalition" will be broadcast. Lamby reconstructs how the Grand Coalition has performed so far. Not good, as everyone knows. In his interviews with some of the participants, Lamby heard a lot of contrition and remorse, and he found powerful, sometimes poetic images. "Insecure people's parties, politicians wrestling with their credibility," reads the review of Lamby's documentary, a thriller of decline.

Walter Borjans and Esken should watch the movie. Perhaps they will then come more easily to a decision about the future of the grand coalition.
