The Social and Constitutional Affairs Committees of the People's Assembly discuss the draft child rights law

Damascus, SANA- The Social and Constitutional Affairs Committees of the People’s Assembly today followed up the discussion of the draft Child Rights Law

Today, the People's Assembly's Social and Constitutional Affairs Committees continued to discuss the draft Child Rights Law presented by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor and prepared by committees and specialized experts from various concerned parties.

The draft law includes 12 chapters and 69 articles focusing on various aspects related to the basic principles of family rights of the child, health, educational and social care, restorative justice, alternative care and protection in terms of child labor.

The participants from the members of the two committees and representatives of the bodies, including social affairs, endowments, the interior, education and higher education, discussed the articles of the law in detail to come up with an appropriate formula to be presented soon before the members of the People’s Assembly to vote on its approval.

In a statement to SANA, the head of the Syrian Commission for Family and Population Affairs, Dr. Akram Al-Qash, said that the draft law was prepared in a way that guarantees the rights of the child in terms of care, education and health, and its issuance enshrines the state's interest in the child and organizes the efforts of all sectors concerned with his affairs, pointing out that the law is in accordance with Syrian laws related to family and personal status and with relevant international conventions.

Dr. Al-Qash pointed out that the law is the first of its kind in Syria and is comparable to international laws and takes into account the privacy of Syrian society and the articles of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, which Syria has signed.
